Bruce Foxton isn’t part of the story of Modern British rock ’n’ roll. He is one of the foundation blocks it was built on.

When the late ’70s detonated into sharp suits, social commentary and amplifier fury, it wasn’t just attitude driving it forward — it was Bruce’s bass. As the iron-spined rhythmic architect of The Jam, he helped redraw the blueprint for British guitar music. Not support. Not background. Structure. Impact. Identity.

Eighteen consecutive UK Top 40 singles. Four No.1 hits. Anthems that still punch through the decades: These weren’t just records — they were declarations. They reshaped British youth culture. And running through every one of them was that trebly, percussive, melodic bass snarl — part rhythm section, part lead weapon.
Foxton didn’t underpin The Jam’s sound — he weaponised it. His pick attack was brutal and exact. His tone sliced clean through the mix. His basslines moved like counter-melodies, giving the songs urgency and lift. On stage he was kinetic and relentless; in the studio he was disciplined and fearless. The Jam didn’t just sound tight — they sounded dangerous.

When The Jam split at their commercial peak in 1982, British rock shifted overnight. But Bruce didn’t stall. He fired back with the solo hit “Freak,” then joined Stiff Little Fingers for over fifteen years of global touring — fusing punk ferocity with mod precision and proving his engine room power travelled anywhere.
After SLF, he linked up with Simon Townshend to form The Casbah Club alongside Bruce Watson and Mark Brzezicki of Big Country — a serious band with serious credentials.

In 2007, following a conversation with Pete Barton and a double-header show pairing The Gift (featuring Rick Buckler) with The Casbah Club, Bruce co-founded From The Jam alongside Rick Buckler and Russ Hastings — reigniting those era-defining songs for packed venues and festival crowds across the UK and beyond. Night after night the catalogue proved untouchable.

In August 2026 in Margate, sharing the stage with Ocean Colour Scene and Roger Daltrey, Bruce played his final show with From The Jam. A celebration. A closing chapter written loud.

But lifers don’t retire. They reload.

Reuniting with Mark Brzezicki, Bruce assembled a new band forged in heritage and raw voltage: Craig Joiner of Romeos Daughter, Andy Fairclough of Secret Affair and The Truth, and Pete Barton, former member of The Animals.
Five legacies. One stage. The set list reads like British rock scripture:
“In the City”, “Modern World”, “Start”, “Going Underground”, “That’s Entertainment”
“The Eton Rifles”, “A Town Called Malice”, “All Around the World”, “A Bomb in Wardour Street”, “In The Midnight Hour”, “Funeral Pyre”, “Strange Town”, "Pretty Green" and plenty more besides.

Bruce Foxton’s story isn’t nostalgia. It’s infrastructure.
It’s the sound of British rock straightening its collar, clenching its fists and kicking down the door.
That bassline still hits you square in the chest. And the public still get what the public wants.
